Goshi is BY FAR the BEST Japanese food in SLO by a LANDSLIDE. This is the only Japanese joint in this tiny town that feels remotely like the quality of food back in LA. Goshi kills it and I know y'all already know.
The service lags behind the food though, but it's not enough to ever stop me from coming here. Goshi is QUALITY, and that level of professionalism is what keeps me coming back.
5 stars end of story stop futzing around and try it stupid. -

So I heard this was the place to be if you want sushi. We tried one Friday but there was an hour an a half wait. We moved on to another place since kids needed to eat.
We tried again on Tuesday. We were quickly seated. The waiter was very nice. I didn't catch his name. I began to explore the menu and bam they have fresh geoduck. I have always wanted to try this clam. I ordered that and a tuna roll.
As we waited, a buddy ordered a round of sake bombs. One thing though, we couldn't enjoy it as the typical sake bomb. We were asked nicely to pour the sake into the cup of beer and not drop the small cups into the beer cups. Fair enough since you asked nicely.
We waited a short time and the food came out. I tried the geoduck. So the flavor was great but it had a gristly texture. I did not know geoduck had a gristly texture. This turned me off but that's me and not a knock on Goshi. The tuna roll was delicious. They also had a flower of tuna which was awesome and a great addition to the tuna roll.
I loved everything at Goshi. I totally recommend this place. -

Dropped my daughter off at the college, and we had to check out the Japanese restaurant in town for her so she can go when she is craving Japanese food. I didn't read any reviews before going in, and didn't know if it was owned and run by Japanese or not, as usually suburb Japanese restaurants are run by others (which is fine, as long as they taste good!).
We were seated at the table, but as I was looking at the menu I heard the Itamae san speaking Japanese - so I went up to the counter and asked him what's good that day. He immediately invited me and my husband up to the counter (thank you!) and our feast began.
We only ate their nigiri, but all of them were superb. I was so happy to be able to have the kind of fish that is hard to get where I live. They were all delicious. He told us if we waited for 15 more minuets, a nice delivery of tuna would arrive - so we did. While we waited, he got me a surprise dessert (Anmitsu, traditional Japanese sweets) which made me cry (kuromitsu was so good!) on the house too :-)
I was expecting double the amount of bill - maybe Seattle area is getting too expensive and I got used to that - but my husband and I were shocked. So delicious! My favorite of the night was Nodo Guro and Negi Toro! Thank you chef!!
Now we know, we can send our "foodie" daughter to this restaurant, the restaurant treated us so nicely! She will be happy as much as we were. -

Really unique options for vegetarians that aren't just tofu. The veggie dish and miso soup are very flavorful and served hot. I'm docking this place for the amount of time it took to deliver the food -- about 45 min after we ordered. But overall, very high quality food and a nice setting. We booked a reservation, which is recommended considering the popularity of this spot.

I would definitely come back here again! It is pricey for some things but the dinner plate is pretty good for what you get. I got the tempura dinner and it came with miso soup and salad, tempura (2 shrimp, 1 fish and a few vegetable pieces), seaweed salad, a green bean dish and a side of rice! Sushi is fresh and service is attentive! I love that they have half roll options so you don't have to commit to a full sushi roll and can have a bit of this and that!
